Chronic Pain Management
Minimising the Impact of Pain on Life
Chronic pain is a long-term health condition just like diabetes or high blood pressure is.
The underlying reasons for chronic pain can vary. It can be caused from ongoing damage or inflammation as a result of an injury, infection, cancer or certain drug treatments for example, to a nervous system that hasn’t been able to reset itself following damage or inflammation.
Just like diabetes can have long-term effects on the body like kidney or heart problems, chronic pain can effect people’s mobility, sleep, energy levels and mood.
Medicines and sometimes injections or surgery can be useful in the short-term. However, failure rates are high, the effectiveness can be unpredictable, and often associated with serious side effects or even worsening symptoms.
Scientific evidence supports early, expert rehabilitation that minimises the physical and emotional impact of pain.
Good pain management promotes normal mood, movement and sleep patterns. Change doesn’t happen instantly though. Applying pain management strategies will promote less awareness of pain symptoms and overtime (it can take up to 12 weeks) leads to enjoyment in life again.
It’s what elite athletes use to get back to normal and perfom at the highest level even if they have an injury.
